A Letter from Lisa |
| Dear Friends, Like you, I have often wondered about the "why's" of my life. But when I allow myself to become quiet within, I realize God's abundant grace and am encouraged to move forward in faith. Black Butterfly Records exists because of the very contradictions that life often presents. What may seem on the surface to be the "worst of the worst," can, over time and with our faith and persistence to "do a new thing," be transformed into awesome, utter beauty. What I love most about the butterfly is the fact that the butterfly can see only the beauty of others-it cannot see its own beauty. The same often holds true for us. Many times others can see our beauty, but we cannot. By actively working to manifest our dreams, we can begin to see not only the beauty of others, but our own: the beauty of watching a dream, however incrementally, unfold…the beauty of that burst of energy when we finally "get it" (a concept, a skill, wisdom)…. My creative energies had been "cocooned" for twenty years. Over that twenty-year period, while completing formal education and working many jobs, I faithfully wrote poems, songs, play fragments, books.... Today, I am able to manifest my work in the way in which it speaks to me -- in a manner which I had never before considered. I consider it a blessing to soon be able to offer such works as So Far: A Catalog of Songs In Praise Of Ancestors Louisiana Dawn: Poems of a Grafted Life Black Butterfly: A Play in Three Acts through this, my own little "window on the world." I hope that you will enjoy these works as much as I love laboring over them.
